FINNISH GULL PROJECTS

05910 - Lesser Black-backed Gull - Larus fuscus

LBBG cr-ringing-project has been very successful. In ten years we have got almost 50.000 reads from 3000 individuals. Now over 10.000 reads/1000 individuals are made yearly. Special thanks to Ehud Dovrad, who has read hundreds of different birds near Tel Aviv. Before read ringing only 2000 were found (about 50 ones/year) from 50.000 metal ringed LBBGs.
The population of nominate LBBG (L. fuscus fuscus) has been strongly decreasing in Finland. It  crashed to a half from the 1970's and the bird was taken to the Red Book of Finnish birds.
