Pozo has legendary reputation among the windsurfing community of the world. The pros have sailed World Cup here every summer since mid-80īs, and windsurfing press has documented sky high double loops and endless 60-knot winds. When slalom racing was still part of the World Cup it was not unusual to see world class pros grab their smallest wavesails for hopelessly overpowered slalomheats.

Pozo is located about 18 kms northeast from Playa del Ingles. There are roadsings pointing to Pozo Izquierdo along the motorway. You are close when the fields between you and the sea are full of windmills.

Wind may be nuclear during the summer months, but rest of the year is sailable for us mortals, too. The waves are rarely bigger than 2 meters, and thanks to steady winds waterstarting and launching is quite easy. Sailing feels safe, and there are no hazardous rocks to drift on.

The beach (can you really call it a beach?) is rocky and rocks are slippery, so it is sometimes painful to get to the water. The shorebreak can be powerful during high tides. Remember to keep your rig attached to something at all times!

Standard of sailing is very high and it is usual to see guys (and girls) looping or throwing unimaginable moves all around you. It can get crowded, and you should always pay attention to other sailors. Some boogieboarders have recently found the beach, too, and sometimes their heads may be quite difficult to spot behind the waves.

It is not advisable to use anything but rugged wave gear here. Rocks and shorebreak can destroy your race gear immediately, and frankly, there are much better places for speed blasting on the island.

Infrastructure has improved considerably during last few years. There is nicely paved parking place to rig on, wooden ramps down to stones (I choose not to to call it a beach) and a beachfront  restaurant to have lunch and watch the action.

Cutre windsurfing store is located right next to the beach, and they offer full service from airport pickup to equipment storage and rental. If your gear gets trashed they fix your boards and sails -usually overnight.
