Ketchup

Ketchup: An easy spot to lauch from

If you do not quite feel like testing your sailing skills in Pozo, a beach called Ketchup at Castillo del Romeral is very nice flat water alternative with winds sometimes even stronger than in Pozo.

To find the spot you have to drive along the GC 812 (old road parallel to the motorway) to the village called Juan Grande. Go direction Castillo del Romeral from the roundabout. After 500 meters turn right to the gravel road leading you under the trees (you can see them) close to the shoreline.

The rocky (!) launch is usually easy, since the breaker on your left gives some shelter from the swell. Outside you find excellent conditions for flat water blasting. The farther you go the bigger the ocean swell naturally gets.

The wind blows usually slightly offshore from left. The coastline turns west downwind from you, so if something goes wrong you may have a longer swim back than you think. Otherwise the spot can be recommended to any sailor from an intermediate jiber to experts training freestyle or slalom racing.

Nearest shops and snack bars are in Castillo del Romeral or in Juan Grande. Bring your own water.
