RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

North Karelia University of Applied Sciences is highly dedicated to research and development work. It has an integral role in regional development processes as an active member of different centre of excellence programmes, as well as a conductor of various important projects.

Strong topics

The choice of topics for the research and development activities are related to regional, national and international trends, to the challenges in the regional business structures, and to the welfare system. They are also related to the main strengths and primary areas of expertise of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The polytechnic itself is deploying its research and development activities in key areas of regional expertise, such as the stone industry, the food industry, forestry, the timber industry, the plastic and metal industries, health, information technology, the travel industry, culture and education.

Cross-border know-how

The location of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, at the border between east and west, enables a natural cross-border interaction. In addition to the numerous projects concerning Russia , there is also well-established bilateral cooperation with several Russian universities. North Karelia University of Applied Sciences has been able to take advantage of its multidisciplinary nature in today's knowledge society and has turned it into a significant competitive benefit.
