Degree Programme in Nursing 1. Bachelor of Health Care and Social Services, Registered Nurse 2. Bachelor of Health Care and Social Services, Public Health Nurse Length and Extent of the Studies 1. 3.5 years, 210 ECTS credits 2. 4 years, 240 ECTS credits Language of Instruction The language of instruction is mainly Finnish. Some courses might be held in English. Admission Requirements Matriculation examination or vocational qualification primarily in health care and social services and entrance examination in English, Swedish and Finnish languages and mathematics. Also, an interview, self evaluation and a group situation will be held. Description of the Degree Programme The Degree Programme in Nursing leads to a professional qualification of Nurse or Public Health Nurse. A qualified nurse has all the clinical skills and communication skills necessary in nursing of different individuals, families and communities. The objective of the orientation option of Public Health Nursing is to educate public health nurses who have wide expertise in the field. The Degree Programme in Nursing educates experts who work in the fields of planning, implementation and development in nursing and health care. Expertise is based on nursing science. During the studies, students learn to implement, improve and develop professional practice in order to promote health of the population. Additionally, students learn to work independently and in cooperation with representatives of various professions at the national and international level. A part of studies can be completed abroad according to the requirements of the degree programme. Elective Studies At the end of the studies, students can acquire deeper knowledge in some field of nursing: e.g. mental health nursing, emergency care, medical-surgical nursing, nursing of children and adolescents or public health nursing.
